Artist Statement
The most prominent medium in my artworks is wire. Wire figures and objects have been sculpted using jewellery making techniques, spray painted and then stitched into an architectural setting made of fabrics and random textures. The overall aim is to contrast the intricate nature of the wire -sharp although flexible, with the patterned / coloured vastness of the fabric. The sharp although soft combination brings what I think is a new-age feminine feel to the artworks.
The artworks often feature well known figures within Australian society. Visually I try to pose questions to the audience, encouraging them to consider a topic from another perspective. Whilst the images are intended to have a message, they are also somewhat ambiguous, leaving space for personal interpretation. I sometimes like to use poetry in place of supporting statements for this reason, as poetry allows for multiple readings of the intentions of the artwork.
